Readings: Job 21:1, 17-34 | 2 John 1:1-13

Job laments the seeming unfairness of life as the wicked prosper while the innocent suffer. The elder in 2 John, meanwhile, urges believers to “walk in truth,” guarding against deception. These readings confront the tension between what we see and what we believe.

Faith means holding to truth even when evidence feels scarce. Job refuses to abandon honesty before God, and John calls us to cling to the teaching of Christ. In both, integrity is the thread that binds suffering to salvation. We may not understand the reasons behind pain, but we can choose to live truthfully amid it.

When cynicism tempts us, God’s Spirit reminds us that love and truth are not opposites, they are companions. The One who is Truth walked through unjust suffering for our sake, and by His wounds we find our footing again. Walking in truth is not easy, but it keeps us close to the God who redeems all things.

Devotional Prompts:

  • How can truth guide you when life feels unjust?
  • Where are you tempted to trade conviction for comfort?
  • How do honesty and love work together in your faith journey?

Prayer:
God of truth, when I cannot make sense of suffering, keep me walking in Your light. Shape my heart to love truthfully and trust You fully. Amen.
