Readings: Isaiah 2 | Psalm 98

Isaiah 2 gives us one of the most stunning visions in all of Scripture: the mountain of the Lord’s temple established as the highest of mountains, where all nations stream to learn God’s ways. It’s a vision of ultimate peace, where swords are beaten into plowshares. It’s a future-focused hope that speaks into our present day conflicts. It reminds us that the goal of history isn’t destruction, but the restoration of all things under the wise and loving rule of God.

Psalm 98 is the natural response to this vision. It’s a shout of joy! “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth… for he comes to judge the earth in righteousness”. For the believer, God’s judgment isn’t something to fear; it’s the arrival of the world we’ve always longed for; a world where everything is finally set right.

Through the lens of Jesus, we see that the mountain isn’t a location, but a Person. Jesus is the True Temple, the ultimate meeting place where God and man are reconciled. He is the Banner lifted up to the nations, first on the cross and now in glory, drawing all people to Himself. In Him, the mountain of peace is already visible. While we wait for the final “plowshare” moment, we live as citizens of His Kingdom today, anchored by the Prince of Peace who is setting the world right, one heart at a time.

Devotional Prompts:

  • How does the vision of “swords into plowshares” change how you view your enemies or those you disagree with?
  • With Isaiah 2 as the backdrop, is it possible that disagreements among Christians is more about personal mission than who’s right or wrong when it comes to modern cultural concerns?

Prayer: King of Peace, thank You for the vision of a world restored and made right. Help me to live today as an ambassador of that Kingdom, choosing peace over conflict, humility over pride, and joy over despair. Let my life be a “new song” that invites others to Your holy mountain. Amen.
