Readings: Psalm 72:1–7, 18–19 | Isaiah 4:2–6 | Acts 1:12–17, 21–26

Isaiah envisions the Branch of the Lord as a sign of beauty, flourishing, and divine shelter. This image roots us in the confident hope that God is still growing something holy among us even as the turbulence of our day-to-day persists. The canopy God spreads is not flimsy sentiment, but divine protection and presence.

Acts brings the theme down to earth. The early church faced uncertainty after Judas’s betrayal, yet instead of panicking, they pray, discern, and trust God to guide their next step. Leadership is chosen not through political maneuvering but through surrender to God’s wisdom. In cultural moments marked by doubt or suspicion, this reminder calls us back to prayerful integrity.

Psalm 72 completes the vision: justice flowing like living water, righteousness renewing the land, God’s glory filling the earth. Advent presses us to look for where God’s Branch is sprouting, even in overlooked places, and to live as people under God’s sheltering canopy.

Devotional Prompts:

  • Where do you most need God’s protection right now?
  • How do you discern God’s guidance when facing big decisions?
  • Where do you see signs of God’s “Branch” growing in your community?
  • What does righteous leadership look like in your context?

Prayer:
Lord of shelter and wisdom, spread your canopy over us. Guide our decisions, renew our hope, and grow your beauty in places we least expect. May your justice and peace take root in us today. Amen.
