Readings: Isaiah 6 | Psalm 99

I love the image in Isaiah 6. There’s a vision that leads to confession (“woe is me”). The confession leads to cleansing, and cleansing leads to mission. True worship leads to a willing heart: “Here am I. Send me.”

In Isaiah 6, the Lord is “high and lifted up,” and heaven cries, “Holy, holy, holy.” Psalm 99 echoes: “The LORD reigns, let the peoples tremble… He is holy.”

Why worship this thrice-holy God?

  • His holiness exposes us: Isaiah cries, “Woe is me.” God cannot use us until we are broken—until we confess, repent, and surrender.
  • His justice confronts sin yet provides cleansing: The coal from the altar reminds us: forgiveness is not cheap, but it is real.
  • His majesty establishes His right to rule: Deep reverence leads us to yield our lives to Him.

And here is the good news: When we embrace His reign, we embrace His mercy. Isaiah is cleansed and freed, and so are we. This points to the grand story of Scripture: a holy God who judges sin, provides atonement, and sends His people, fulfilled in Christ, who cleanses and commissions us for the taks.

But the calling is not easy. Isaiah is sent to a people who will not listen. The “go” is costly. Yet he still says, “Send me.” True surrender trusts God, not the outcome.

Devotional Prompts:

  • Where is God’s holiness exposing areas of “unclean lips” in your life today
  • What might it look like for you to say, “Here am I, send me,” this week?

Prayer: Holy, just, and majestic King, You reign above all. Break what is proud in me, cleanse what is unclean, and help me live in the freedom of Your mercy. Give me courage to go, even when the path is hard. Amen.
