Readings:
Psalm 32:1–7 | Job 22:21–23:17 | 2 Peter 1:1–11
Job refuses glib counsel. His honesty before God gives voice to those who feel unseen: “If only I knew where to find him…” (Job 23). The psalmist shows the doorway to renewed joy in confession that meets covering love. Peter then charts a path of growth: faith supplemented by goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love. This is not moral ladder-climbing but life “participation in the divine nature,” grace working through effort.
In cultural moments of confusion and outrage, the church can be tempted to quick fixes or quick takes. Job teaches us to bring our ache to God without pretending. A re-reading of Psalm 32 assures us God meets truth with mercy, while 2 Peter invites disciplined hope: growth happens over time, tended by promises and empowered by the Spirit. The result is a community both honest and holy; people who do not deny the night yet keep lighting lamps.
Devotional Prompts:
- What honest prayer have you been afraid to voice to God?
- Which one virtue from 2 Peter could you ask the Spirit to grow this week?
- Where might confession open a path from heaviness to joy?
Prayer:
Holy God, meet us in our questions and form us in Your likeness. Grant steadfastness in trial and growth in love that reflects Your heart. Amen.
