Date: Wednesday, December 24, 2025 – Nativity of the Lord - Proper I (Christmas Eve)
Readings: Isaiah 9:2–7 | Psalm 96 | Titus 2:11–14 | Luke 2:1–20
Luke’s nativity story captures a world waiting in darkness that is abruptly overwhelmed by glory. The birth of Christ in a humble manger confronts our assumptions about power and significance. God steps into the ordinary, transforming the overlooked into the holy. The angelic announcement to shepherds who were outsiders by every social measure, reminds us that God’s light favors the lowly and outcast.
Isaiah’s prophecy of a great light exploding over those who walk in darkness, and the psalmist’s call to rejoice, anchor this moment in a long-awaited hope. Then Titus lifts our attention to the grace that not only saves but reshapes us. Together these readings create a mosaic of divine invasion as God scatters the clouds we thought would never break. Christmas Eve becomes not merely a tradition but a declaration: darkness is not the lasting state. Light will dawn.
Devotional Prompts:
- How does Christ’s humble arrival reshape your understanding of divine power?
- Where are you longing for light to break into your life?
- How might you be called to embody hope for others tonight?
Prayer:
Lord of Light, shine into my shadows and awaken my hope. Let the humility of Christ transform my vision and my desires. Fill my heart with wonder as I welcome Your presence anew. Amen.
