Readings: Proverbs 8:22–31 | 1 John 5:1–12
In today’s readings, we hear the pulse of creation and new birth echoing together. From John’s reminder that faith in Christ is the victory that overcomes the world to Proverbs’ stirring vision of Wisdom present at creation, we’re invited into a story far older and far deeper than our own struggles. These passages pull us into the wild and holy truth that life itself is a gift spoken, shaped, and sustained by God.
As we consider these words, we sense how easily we drift into self-absorption. We chase identity and purpose based on the world’s terms. But the Scriptures call us back, reminding us that we are born of God, created and re-created by grace, being constantly renewed each day. Wisdom laughs with delight beside the Creator, and we are summoned to join that joy, stepping away from the noise of a world that rewards hurry and self-sufficiency.
If we let these verses settle into our bones, we discover that the life God offers is resilient, guaranteed in divine love, and spacious enough to carry every part of us, even the parts we don't talk about at Christmas parties.
Devotional Prompts:
- Where do we sense God inviting us to receive rather than achieve today?
- How does the image of Wisdom present at creation expand our understanding of God’s story?
- In what ways are we resisting the new life God is offering us?
- How might faith reshape the way we move through our daily responsibilities?
Prayer:
Holy Creator, breathe new life into us again. Let the wisdom that danced at the beginning guide our steps today. Shape our faith, steady our hearts, and root us in Your love. Amen.
