Readings: Zechariah 8:1–17 | Matthew 8:14–17, 28–34
Matthew shows Jesus moving through ordinary and unsettling moments, healing a fever, casting out demons, confronting destructive forces no one else could tame. Whether in a quiet home or a chaotic shoreline, Jesus’ presence disrupts what harms, and restores what’s broken. His authority brings both comfort and confrontation.
Many of us welcome the comforting Jesus but resist the confronting one. Yet Advent is a season of holy disruption. Christ steps into our routines and exposes what binds us; fear, resentment, habits we’ve normalized. His healing often comes disguised as interruption, asking us to let go of what no longer belongs in the life He’s giving us.
In contrast to the world that often glorifies self-identity and independence, Jesus invites surrender and belonging to something greater. He doesn’t merely tweak our lives; He transforms them. The question is whether we will ask Him to leave, like the terrified townspeople, or invite Him deeper.
Devotional Prompts:
- What areas of your life might Christ be confronting right now?
- How do you usually respond when God interrupts your plans?
- Where do you need Jesus’ healing authority today?
Prayer:
Christ our Healer, step into our routines and reveal what needs Your transforming touch. Free us from what binds us, and give us courage to welcome Your restoring power. Amen.
