Readings: 1 Kings 3:5–14 | John 8:12–19

As one year draws to a close, today’s readings call us to seek clarity, wisdom, and holy direction. Jesus declares Himself the Light of the World; the One who reveals truth and scatters darkness. A thousand years prior, Solomon, in his humble request, seeks wisdom rather than personal gain, and God honors his desire with a double portion of blessing.

These passages remind us that spiritual clarity is not found in our cleverness but in our nearness to God. We often carry anxieties about the future, trying to predict or control what lies ahead. But Scripture invites us to walk by the light Christ gives, a light that is steady and bright enough for the next step. Wisdom comes not from mastering our circumstances but from yielding our desires and aligning ourselves with God’s heart.

Standing on the threshold of a new season, we are called to follow the Light that leads us into wholeness. Christ guides us not with harsh demands but with a grace that reveals the path forward. Like Solomon, we are free to ask for wisdom without hesitation, trusting that God delights to give what we truly need.

Devotional Prompts:

  • What areas of our lives feel clouded and in need of Christ’s light?
  • Where might God be inviting us to seek wisdom rather than control?
  • How can we enter the coming season with openness rather than fear?
  • What practice will help us stay close to Christ’s guidance?

Prayer:
Light of the World, illuminate our path as we step into what lies ahead. Grant us wisdom, steady our hearts, and align us with Your purposes. Lead us by Your grace into a new year shaped by Your love. Amen.
