Readings: Psalm 123 | Job 20:1-11 | 2 Peter 1:16-21
Psalm 123 lifts a prayer from those who have had enough: “We have endured much contempt.” Job, too, speaks from the place of exhaustion, and Peter reminds us that God’s truth stands firm even when the world mocks faith. These readings invite us to look upward when life feels heavy.
Waiting on God is not passive. It is a posture of trust, eyes fixed on the One whose mercy never fails. In seasons of discouragement or misunderstanding, the temptation is to give up or fight back. But the psalmist teaches another way: we wait with hope, not resignation. The same God who vindicated Job and confirmed His word through Christ will lift us in due time.
God’s faithfulness does not depend on our clarity or control, it grows in the soil of surrender. When we turn our eyes toward Him, contempt loses its sting and grace reshapes our response.
Devotional Prompts:
- How do you respond when you feel overlooked or dismissed?
- What helps you keep your eyes “lifted to the Lord” in weary seasons?
- How might waiting become an act of worship for you today?
Prayer:
Merciful Lord, when I grow tired of waiting, teach me to rest in Your steadfast love. Lift my eyes to You until hope rises again. Amen.
