Eyes to See

Matthew 13 is parable central: seeds, weeds, mustard seeds, hidden treasure, pearls, and nets. Jesus explains that He speaks this way so that those with soft, seeking hearts perceive the Kingdom while the hardened simply hear a nice story. It’s a beautiful mystery: the Kingdom of God grows quietly, often invisibly, like yeast working through dough, until suddenly its presence is undeniable. This is progressive revelation (or what the scholars call Biblical Theology) in action. The Kingdom promised to Israel as an inviting light to all nations, now sprouting in surprising, small, hidden ways through Christ.

Psalm 27 begins, “The Lord is my light and my salvation,” and centers on “seeking his face.” That’s precisely the posture Jesus commends: eyes willing to look past the ordinary dirt and weeds to see something eternal growing beneath the surface. Consider how a mustard seed, nearly invisible in your palm, becomes a tree birds can nest in; that’s the pattern of grace. God’s Kingdom rarely announces itself with fireworks. It grows in quiet faithfulness, waiting for eyes willing to truly notice, then get personally involved, even in the smallest of ways.
