Readings: Psalm 80:1–7, 17–19 | 2 Samuel 7:1–17 | Galatians 3:23–29

Paul declares a radical new identity in Christ to the Galatian church: we are no longer defined by old categories or old failures. Paul reminds us that the Law guided us for a time, but in Jesus we are adopted into a family where faith and trust, not performance, identifies us.

Advent reminds us that Christ came not to reinforce patterns but to break open new boundaries and new possibilities. In the face of social or political fragmentation, Paul’s vision is revolutionary: we are one in Christ. That unity is not bland sameness or mass produced conformity, but a shared dignity rooted in God’s love. When we forget this, we slip back into competition and comparison, measuring worth by metrics that cannot hold the weight of our souls.

God invites us into belonging that frees rather than confines. You don’t earn your place, you inherit it. And from that secure identity, you are sent to see others through the same lens of grace.

Devotional Prompts:

  • What labels have shaped your sense of identity, helpfully or harmfully?
  • How does belonging to Christ reshape the way you see others?
  • Where is God inviting you to extend grace across dividing lines?

Prayer:
Father of all, remind us of the identity You give: beloved, free, and united in Christ. Form us into people who break down barriers and reflect Your gracious welcome. Amen.
